In the book of 1 Samuel, we find a story of a young woman who is very beautiful. She looks at herself in a mirror and sees that her beauty is reflected back to her. She begins to think that she is a goddess, that she is a prize to be won. The more beautiful she becomes, the more power she desires.

She begins to covet the attention of other men and uses witchcraft to try and bind them to her. When she finally meets her real husband, she tries to force him to fall in love with her and does all she can to ruin his life. She feels so confident in her own beauty that when she sees the sun set and the darkness sets in, she begins to fear it. Her beauty fades away and she loses all confidence in herself.

If only she knew the brightness of her heart, she would never fear darkness.
